Grounding during a Full Moon

Writer's picture: Kathy Brown Kathy Brown

I find that there are times in my life where I feel anxious, worried, "flighty" and confused, especially during the past few months. The full moon can also heighten these anxious feelings. During a Full Moon we want to make sure we don't get too worked up or stressed out. It is important to make sure we stay grounded during this time, and although these grounding practices are effective during a full moon, they are also very effective during these unsettling times.

Ways to Ground Yourself:

Eat something - digestion takes up a lot of the body's energy, and therefore brings us into our bodies - this is why you want to make sure you do anything spiritual like meditation with an empty belly.

Certain crystals can be very grounding - carrying around or wear smoky quarts or a black/brown/red crystal can keep you grounded. I find even wearing earthy colours can help me feel more grounded.

Chakra Work - if you have ever studied Chakras, focusing on and bringing balance to the Root Chakra can be very grounding.

Placing your bare feet on the ground, or your hand on a tree - for me there is no better way to feel more connected to myself and the earth.

Connecting to the Breath - another very simple yet amazing way to be in the present moment, and completely connected to ourselves. Take a moment, and concentrate on the breath coming in and leaving the body, become very connected to your breath and notice how the breath flows through you.

Essential Oils - there are many grounding essential oils that can help us in times of feeling anxious and worried, any tree oil is especially good at this. Place a few drops on your favourite Essential Oil Jewelry, or place a few drops on the souls of the feet will help to ground you as well.

Mediation or Yoga - anything that helps you to reconnect with yourself is a great way to ground yourself. Becoming involved in a full moon yoga class - or full moon circle where you can meet with like minded people and come together to release what no longer serves you.

The Full Moon is NOT the time to start something new or make life changing decisions, it is a time of letting go, releasing and shedding old beliefs and habits.

I love to teach Full Moon Yoga circles, I like to call them circles, because they are more than a "class". We will honour this time with practices that serve us, we will support each other and connect. I love to hold these circles outdoors, and in person (when we are not in a COVID world), but for now you can find these circles online via zoom.
