My younger life was always in the fast lane of the highway of life, rushing from work to home to eating to cleaning to jumping in the car and doing it all over again. I don't think I was alone in this constant rushing. The only thing it accomplished was adding extra stress and anxiety to my life, together with a constant feeling of never being good enough.
Today, the feeling of stress and anxiety in my life often has more to do with what is going on globally. Unfortunately, I don't think COVID is going away anytime soon.
Restorative yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down. A typical class involves only five or six poses, held for an extended period of time and with our bodies being completely supported with props.
Restorative yoga allows our body and mind to completely relax as we focus on releasing and letting go. The practice places our body in a relaxed state that allows our nervous system to stop constantly being in the sympathetic state, the fight or flight mode. When we access the parasympathetic nervous system, it aids healing and relaxation in the body. Something we could always use more of in this crazy COVID world we now live in.
"But Kathy, I don't have all those props at home," If this is you, check out this post to learn about all the things you have at home that make amazing yoga props!
